Barrier MethodsBirth control barrier methods is a very important part of family planning and with the rate of unwanted pregnancies and occurrence of teenage sex, the many different types of birth control devices and methods should be introduced as early on to teens as possible. There are many birth control methods like condoms, spermicide or a diaphragm etc. The barrier method is not 100% foolproof, although none of the birth control methods and devices are ever 100% secure so, in order to achieve its full potential, usage of the barrier type of birth control should be used together with an effective form of spermicidal application which kills off sperm that enters the body. Some of them were also using home remedies like vinegar soaked sponges into their vagina to block sperm. Though not much effective but it was certainly gave the evolution of new birth control barrier methods mostly being used today. 1. CondomsCondoms are a very important tool while having sex as they provide you with the necessary protection and act as a shield from possible sexually transmitted diseases. Knowing how to put on a condom effectively is extremely important as condoms tend to tear apart or just slip off during intercourse simply due to the fact that they were not worn properly. Consequences can be deadly if condom tears apart of slips during intercourse therefore it is very important to learn how to put on a condom. Read on to discover some of the most effective ways to put on a condom and practice safe sex. Male CondomIt is essential to see as to which way the condom rolls and make sure that you are wearing it correctly. The condom should unroll smoothly and easily from the rim to the outside. It is best to put the condom when the penis is erect. If you are using a latex condom never use oil based lubrication as it weakens the latex. And always use water based lubrication with latex condoms. After the ejaculation remove the penis immediately and the condom carefully while the penis is still erect. One thing has to be kept in mind that while you are going for the event both the male and the female condom should not be used together as the male condom could be pulled out or the female condom could be pushed in. See to it that no semen is spilled while removing the condom as it can spoil your effort of taking all the preventive act during the event. One thing is important to know that a condom should not be reused. Female CondomSince women especially have long sharp nails care should be taken so as not to put a nail on the condom as it will damage the condom. The teeth too should not be used while opening it. The female condom is inserted in the vagina with the help of a finger. The flexible inner can be squeezed in with the help of the thumb or the middle finger. The ring should be inserted as far as possible into the vagina. The outer ring of the condom should remain outside and should not be pushed inside during the event. Just like the male condom the female condom too should not be reused. One thing is important to keep in mind that whether you are using a male or a female condom the expiry date should be checked otherwise it will be of no use. 2. SpermicideSpermicide is a chemical that is available in different doses and concentrations and it works by killing the sperm membrane. Alone or with a vaginal barrier method, spermicide can be used either way. The biggest advantage of using the same is that it provides moderate protection from Sexually Transmitted Infections. Talking about spermicides, there is something called the contraceptive sponge that is somewhat like a foam or sponge that one inserts into the body of the female to cover the cervix area. The foam contains sperm-killing chemicals that kill of sperms that enter the body. Not only do contraceptive sponges block the sperm from entering the cervix, it also doubles up as spermicide, working as a 2-in-1 birth control device. Spermicides must be placed in the vagina before sexual intercourse. Some offer protection right away but most must be placed in the vagina at least 15 minutes before sex so they have enough time to dissolve and spread. All forms of spermicides are only effective for 1 hour after they are inserted.Another application of spermicide is needed if more than 1 hour passes before sex, as well as before repeated sex. Douche should not be used for at least 6 hours after sex with spermicide use. 3. DiaphragmDiaphragm is another barrier birth control method used by women to prevent sperm entering into uterus via vagina. A diaphragm keeps sperm from entering the uterus by blocking the cervix. For added protection, spermicide is put into the bowl of the diaphragm and along its edges before inserting the diaphragm high into the vagina so it covers the cervix. Diaphragm is made of thin flexible rubber and looks similar to dome or cup having the flexible ring on the top. Diaphragm should be used along with spermicidal cream or jelly for greater effectiveness. Advantages of diaphragm :
