Using Lybrel

The most important thing to remember when taking Lybrel is to take the pill at the same time every day. Every day that you skip increases your risk of getting pregnant. If you have problem in taking Lybrel daily on a regular basis, then you should consult your doctor.

Before you start

Decide what time of day would be most convenient for you to take Lybrel, and then get in the habit of taking it every day at that time. Make sure that you have other methods of birth control, such as condoms or spermicide, on hand in case you ever miss taking a pill. Precaution is must.

When to start

It is advisable to take the first pill during the first 24 hours of your period. Since you are starting at the beginning of your period, you will not need to use a backup form of birth control.

Switching from another type of birth control

If you are switching from another type of hormonal birth control, such as injection or implant, you should consult with your doctor to determine the best time to start taking Lybrel.

If you miss pills

Remember, if you miss pill, you could become pregnant. It is recommended that you use a backup form of birth control for 7 days after you restart your pills. If you miss taking one pill, take the missed pill as soon as you remember and then take the next pill at your regularly scheduled time. This might mean that you have to take 2 pills in one day. If you miss 2 pills, take 2 pills on the day you remember, and then start your regular schedule the following day. If you miss 3 or more pills, contact your doctor, and please do not take the missed pills.
